We’ve worked alongside Salboy Developments to support the delivery of Viadux – a striking 40-storey residential tower that redefines Manchester’s skyline. Acting as both Principal Designer Advisor and CDM Client Advisor, we’ve been part of the project team since its early stages, providing safety assurance and design risk guidance on a site with complex constraints.
Phase One of the Viadux development includes 370 residential apartments, all of which were sold out upon completion in July 2024. The tower rises directly above Grade II* listed rail viaducts and sits above live Metrolink tram lines – a challenging environment that demanded careful planning and coordination across every phase of construction.
We provided critical safety support for technically demanding works, including the creation of an opening through the viaduct structure. This involved complex hot-cutting operations, night-time working, coordinated road closures, and intricate craning logistics on a restricted city centre site.
The successful completion of the first phase is a major achievement for everyone involved. The tower now stands as a landmark on Manchester’s skyline, with its unique design and complex delivery setting a new benchmark for high-rise urban living.
Building over Grade II* listed rail arches and active Metrolink lines
Complex structural modifications and cutting works within a live city environment
Tight urban logistics with limited site access
Night-time operations requiring coordination with multiple authorities
Ongoing collaboration with the design team to manage evolving safety risks
