Revitalising Heritage: Cannington Bottle Shop

Our CDM team recently stepped back in time during a visit to the Cannington Shaw No.7 Bottle Shop in St Helens, one of Britain’s historic landmarks in glass-making. As Principal Designer Advisor, we’re thrilled to support MGMA Architects on this unique project, lending our heritage conservation expertise to help protect and revitalise a vital piece of the nation’s industrial legacy.

The Cannington Shaw No.7 Bottle Shop, a Grade II listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, was integral to the British glass industry in the 19th century, helping to establish St Helens as a major centre of glass production. Today, the site faces challenges from urban development, having been left landlocked, decaying, and overgrown.

Local heritage organisation ‘Friends of Cannington Shaw’ is dedicated to preserving and reimagining the site, with plans to introduce sustainable, modern uses that honour its historical importance.

In collaboration with MGMA Architects and other key stakeholders, we are proud to contribute to the revitalisation of Cannington Shaw No.7 Bottle Shop, safeguarding its legacy for the St Helens community.
