We supported Peel NRE with health and safety advice during the transition, decommissioning, and early regeneration phases of the former Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station. Initially brought in to review existing safety procedures during the handover from SSE, our role evolved to advising on new safe systems of work and managing health and safety compliance across a live, complex brownfield site.
Following the ownership transfer, we reviewed and updated legacy procedures to suit Peel’s operational approach while aligning with the site’s three environmental permits, covering ash processing, power station operations, and water discharges.
Our work included risk assessments for ongoing site activity, development of safe working procedures, and input into compliance across the site’s diverse zones — from cooling towers to lagoons.
The demolition of the first four cooling towers was safely completed in 2023, marking a major step in the site’s transformation. We helped ensure that ash removal from lagoons A, B, and D progressed with robust safety measures in place.
Fiddler’s Ferry remains a highly sensitive and technically demanding site, and we’re proud to have supported its safe transition from energy generation to regeneration — setting the foundation for a new chapter in its history.
