Gateway Two Approval Secured for Prosperity Developments

Smithfield Plot 1, part of the wider Smithfield House development, marks an important milestone in Birmingham’s ongoing city centre regeneration. Positioned in one of the city’s most connected locations, the scheme sits at the heart of Digbeth’s creative quarter within the vibrant Eastside district.

Prosperity Developments has now achieved Gateway 2 approval from the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) for the 22-storey scheme, which will deliver 305 one and two-bedroom apartments alongside communal rooftop gardens, ground-floor commercial space and secure cycle storage.

The project is being delivered by Prosperity Developments, with completion targeted for Q4 2027 and Gateway 3 submission expected ahead of occupation in Q1 2028. Smithfield Plot 1 is one of two major schemes Prosperity are bringing forward in Digbeth, forming part of the wider transformation of Birmingham’s Eastside district.

It’s been a privilege to undertake the Principal Designer role on this scheme on behalf of Safer Sphere, with the support of Andy Pennock, Simon Nichol and Daniel Dacre. A huge effort from the entire team and subcontractors to reach this approval. We look forward to seeing it come out of the ground.

Safer Sphere remains at the forefront of construction and building safety, ensuring that projects meet and exceed evolving regulatory standards. As the Building Safety Act 2022 continues to reshape the industry, we are committed to driving excellence, setting new benchmarks for compliance, and supporting the sector in delivering safer, high-quality buildings for the future
