As we approach the April 6th deadline in 2024, the building industry is gearing up for significant changes under the Building Safety Act (BSA).
End of Transitional Arrangements
If you weren’t aware already, The Building Safety Act has brought about a new building control regime which is applicable to all construction projects from 1st October 2023 unless the transitional arrangements are applicable.
However, the clock is ticking, and on April 6th, transitional arrangements under the BSA will come to an end. This means individuals and organisations involved in the building sector must complete all necessary tasks by April 5th. As the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) emphasises, those involved must go back through Gateway Two, making this a challenging period for meeting compliance standards.

Building Control Surveyors – Registration as RBIs
Practising Building Control Surveyors (BCS) should mark April 6th, 2024, as a crucial registration deadline for Registered Building Inspectors (RBIs). The application window has been open since October 1st with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). Professionals should actively work on compiling information for their stage one applications to ensure a smooth process. Additionally, individuals should be in progress with stage two applications, choosing between two main report-based routes through Total Training and Development (Building Control Competency Assessment) or CABE and one exam-based route with the Building Safety Competence Framework (BSCF).
Safer Sphere is currently recruiting building control experts to join our Building Safety Act team, offering the opportunity to leverage your experience in a unique consultancy role and work on some of the most prestigious projects throughout the UK.
Approved Inspectors – Transition to Registered Building Control Approver
The Building Safety Act introduces changes for Approved Inspectors (AIs) who plan to become Registered Building Control Approvers (RBCA) from April 6th 2024. It is essential that AIs are approved by the HSE Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to attain RBCA status. Local authorities (LAs) are now operating under the jurisdiction of the BSR, emphasising the comprehensive nature of the regulatory framework.
As we navigate these changes, it is imperative for professionals in the building industry to stay informed, act promptly, and ensure compliance with the evolving regulations under the Building Safety Act.
